130Islam, Democracy and Human Rights in Contemporary IndonesiaMonitoring Mission (AMM), which included representativesfrom the European Union, the United States, and othercountries, monitored the disarmament process and the overallimplementation of the peace agreement Indonesian Government and OPM could take and readjust those key areas of common concern to be discussed comprehensively during the expected peaceful negotiations to end decades of conflict in Papua.Second, the new Indonesian Government under PresidentPrabowo%u2019s administration could likely remove internationalpressures on Papua if some UN recommendations could beaddressed. In my capacity as the Head of the IndonesianDelegation at the 8th Session of the United Nations PermanentForum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) in New York, May 18-29, 2009, since then, I have observed that the UN has seriouslyhighlighted various human rights issues in Papua and WestPapua. On December 22, 2021, the UN Human Rights Councilexposed various concerns to the Government of the Republic ofIndonesia, such as:%u201c%u2026.We have received information concerning the excessiveuse of force against indigenous Papuans in the Indonesianprovinces of Papua and West Papua. We have receivedallegations indicating several instances of extra-judicialkillings, including of young children, enforceddisappearance, torture and inhuman treatment, and theforced displacement of at least 5,000 indigenous Papuansby security forces between April and November 2021.%u201dTherefore, the Government needs to build a more conducivecommunication with the UN by responding to various issues
