Because withoutmutual respect and mutual responsibility,the truth is we can achieve very little. %u2014Kevin RuddThe International Day of the World%u2019s Indigenous Peopleon Aug. 9 was first proclaimed by the UN GeneralAssembly in December 1994, to be celebrated everyyear during the first International Decade of the World%u2019sIndigenous Peoples (1995-2004).In 2004, the assembly proclaimed a second InternationalDecade, from 2005 to 2014, with the theme %u201cA decade for actionand dignity%u201d. To achieve the goal of the decade, in the contextof Indonesia, various misinterpretations in the text and spirit ofthe Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples have to beaddressed.3
