                                    48Islam, Democracy and Human Rights in Contemporary IndonesiaThe present and future of Asian reality still shows the varietyof religious community and ethnic groups and will bring effectsto the Asian security and stability. The problem is how tounderstand the problem, because not only the various religionsand ethnic groups are in the world, such as seen in some Asiacountries, but the impact of the religious doctrines for theircommunity are also various. Besides, religious problem oftencoinciding with ethnic problems, so that sometimes a religiouscommunity from the same ethnic will be involved in social andpolitical conflict. The partition of the sub-Indian continent into India and Pakistan, after the Second World War was theexcellent example. The reason of partition was based on religionand religious community between the Muslims and the Hindus.But, in fact, this did not solve the internal problem of bothcountries, because after partition, the ethnic problems stillbecome a potential matter which causes provincial and localstrain in both countries. Other countries such as Malaysia andSingapore %u2014 in the smaller cases %u2014 have the similar problem,because of there are three prominent ethnics composing thenation: Malay, Chinese, and Indian origin beside the localDayaks in Sarawak and Sabah. Each of them has theirmajorities of different followers of the religions, which couldlead to a potential problem and threaten the stability of internal politics, if cannot maintain carefully. The similar problem couldraise in other countries, such as China, Philippines, Thailand,Cambodia and Myanmar.The problem is facing now in my country, Indonesia, maybe a par-excellent example of conflict with religious and ethnicalbackground and becomes difficult problem to be solved bywhosoever led the government.
