34Islam, Democracy and Human Rights in Contemporary Indonesia%u201cO people, listen well to my words, for I do not knowwhether, after this year, I shall ever be amongst you here againin the future. O people, do you know which month is this?. This is a sacred month. And do you know which land is this? Itis the sacred land of Arafat. Therefore, o people, your lives andyour property are sacred and inviolable until you appear beforeAllah in the Day of Judgment. Take my words to those whocould not be present here today. Remember that, some day,you will indeed meet your Allah, and that He will indeed reckonyour deeds. Have I not conveyed the message? O Allah! Be mywitness. Whoever of you is keeping a trust of someone elseshall return the trust to its rightful owner. Allah has forbidden you to take interest (riba, a form ofexploitation of people over people); therefore all interestobligations shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however,is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequityand injustice. Every right arising out of homicide in pre-Islamicdays is henceforth waived. And the first such right is from themurder of Rabi%u2019ah bin Harith bin Abdul Mutalib.O people! it is true that you have certain rights with regardto your wives, but they also have rights over you. Be kind tothem. Remember that you have taken them as your wives onlyunder Allah%u2019s trust and with His permission.O people! understand well the words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Qur%u2019an and my example, theSunnah, and if you follow these you will never go astray. Listenwell to my words. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to everyMuslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to afellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly.%u201d
