                                    Islam, Democracy and Human Rights in Contemporary Indonesia35The following day, on 10 Dhul Hijjah in the 13th Hijrahyear (10 March 632 AD), Prophet Muhammad reaffirmed themessages contained in the last sermon of 9 March 632 AD.Finally, on 11 Dhul Hijjah in the 13th Hijrah year (11 March632 AD), Prophet Muhammad put emphasis on the principleof equality for people. %u201cO people! your Allah is one and your ancestor father isone. All of you belong to one ancestry of Adam and Adam wascreated out of clay. There is no superiority for an Arab over anon-Arab, or for white over the colored. All is created equal,except in piety. The noblest among you is he who is the mostpious to Allah.%u201dAt the end of the speech, Prophet Muhammad looked upto the sky and exclaimed. %u201cO Allah! I have delivered mymessage and accomplished my work.%u201d The people crowdingaround him with one voice cried%u201cYes, indeed so! Allah be witness.%u201d O Allah! I beseech you,bear you witness unto it.%u201d As soon as Prophet Muhammad finished his address, theArchangel Gabriel recited to the people the concluding divinerevelation:%u201cToday I have completed for you your religion, and grantedyou the last of my blessings. Today I have accepted for youIslam as the religion.%u201d (Surah Al Maidah verse 3).Soon after this verse was read out, all Muslims presentrejoiced, except close friends of Prophet Muhammad, includingAbu Bakar as Shiddiq. He cried and realized that this versecould be the last verse of the revelation collected in the al-Qur%u2019anfor 22 years.
